Why you do this, Harpy?

I did the amnesia thing because herpaderp. At least Meat Boy got a chance to fry pan someone in the head. To help someone! Nevertheless, that one thing is trite now, so I will never do THAT again.

Hypercam seems to be working just fine for me. Which is awesome, because I need to show off my uber failing skills in KDL's Extra Mode. Because that's terrible.

And as for why I keep chugging out more minor characters? Because I'm bloody insane. Waddle Drone is probably the last, although he might make an appearance for next year. Depends. I also need to get that one Elite Four story out of the way, but I keep forgetting like a herpaderp. I so sad.

Quick question for you guys... Out of the seven members of the Kirby Brigade, which one is your favorite? Which one do you believe is the most badass, too?

50th Blog Post Special!

Helllooooo everyone! Welcome to "Harpy  Lists Projects and opens a Q&A!" In THAT order! Today will be fuuuun, and there's something for everybody! Hopefully.

For now, projects.

What will I do aside from college work when Zoofights is over? Well.. I'll separate it into several different categories.


FANFIC RELATED


I intend to start chugging a crudload of Kirby Fanfiction in celebration of the pants-shittingly awesome Kirby: Return to Dream Land. I will be working on the Amazing Mirror, a Mass Attack Spoof, and the backstories of all of the colored kirbies I roleplay as. All of them will go under my fanfiction account so you don't have to go scavenging for them. For the last project, I dub it the "Rainbows in Dream Land" Project, since the kirbies cover almost all of the colors in the rainbow. Part of this collection is "Pink in the Darkness" and my current part of it, "Brown in the Clockwork".

I might write some silly Mario, Sonic, or Final Fantasy fanfics for shits and giggles. If I write one on FFI... Keep an eye out for a certain white mage, if you know what I mean.

VIDEO GAME RELATED

I might just restart Bowser's Inside Story. I mean, I completely whooped that game's ass so many times (well, the final boss anyway. That one Dark Star DX, though...), I might as well. Give me a decent challenge, you guys! I'm up for it!

I am also looking into desktop recorders that I don't have to shell out a ton of money for, mainly because I want to make an LP of KDL3. If you guys have any ideas, let me know!

Work on KDL2 has begun, and my, have I forgotten where all the Rainbow Drops were? What a shame. I also started up on Golden Sun, aaand I think to need to work on that some more. Garet is a derp, though. A complete and utter derp.

FICTION RELATED

I haven't had much to read lately. I've been reading fanfiction, but no actual, original fiction binded by pages. Its kinda sad, really. As for writing fiction, I haven't done anything yet, but when I have the time, I'll most likely put up a little teaser for "For Whom the Bell Tolls".

And now with most of that out of the way, feel free to ask me any question you'd like. I'll be sure to answer them in the next blog I make.

How Harpy Got into Gaming Part I (and a few other things)

Before I get into retro mode, I need to make a quick announcement. All of you who are curious about "For Whom the Bell Tolls", worry no longer! I have a Fictionpress account now, and so by Sunday morning, I should have a little short starring Alex, Xavier, and Chuck. Okay, by short... I mean like 3,000 + words. Haaaa...

Anyway, onwards!

I'm a 90s girl, being born in good '93. I have to admit, I lived the high life. My parents would spoil my brother, my sister, and me with games of all kinds. The first system we had was a Super Nintendo. The Super Nintendo was pretty much my childhood. I would watch my brother play Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Final Fantasy II (IV), and all those other retro classics nobody could possibly forget. Delicious, delicious retro goodness.

Well, there's retro classics, and then there's Earthbound.

My elder brother, Elvin, had a friend. Said friend let him borrow Earthbound, and being the little curious 5 year old I was, I watched him. Holy shit, it was mind blowing for a kid like me. To beatting up runaway dogs to facing Giygas (oh boy, the nightmares it brought), it was pretty fun to watch AND play. No other game stuck out in my mind at the time, but.. Earthbound!

Elvin also had a Game Boy with Pokemon Blue, Tetris, Super Mario Land 2 (I think), and something else. I played the living hell out of Tetris, even if I sucked donkey balls at it. Pokemon Blue, on the other hand... well, I didn't play it often, but my bro showed me how to play. He had a Blastoise (yay!) and a relatively high leveled team. The last I remember of it, he was in Victory Road when we all went to a cousin's house in Florida. I put the Game Boy on my cousin's bed and went to go play with the others, then when I came back.. It was gone! I looked all over for it, but too late: the damage was done. I had lost my bro's precious GB AND his high level team of pokemon. I think he secretly hates me for it. Heh heh.... bluh.

I'd go into how I got into Emulation, but that happened during the GBA era! Or between the Super Nintendo and N64 eras, at any rate. For now, though, let me list and explain my list of favorites:

Harpy's Favorites: Super Nintendo

Super Mario World: I really love this game based on the difficulty balance and that goddamn Yoshi. Also because of the cape because CAAAPES. It was my first real Mario Game (unless All-Stars' remake of SMB3 counts), and boy was it exciting! With boatloads of secrets, it has a bit of replay value. With charming music, fun levels, and a goddamn YOSHI, this game was a blast to play through. Have I beaten it? Yes. Yes I have.

Super Mario All-Stars: What would happen if you revamped the graphics of the classic Mario games of NES lore, fixed up a few bits here and there,  add in a Japan-Only Mario Game, and, in one version, toss in SMW?

You get this package of undiluted AWESOME.

You get Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros 2 (based on Doki Doki Panic), Super Mario Bros 3, AND, on a special edition cartridge, SUPER MARIO WORLD. This is a Mario lover's wet dream, I can tell you that much. I can spend time to tell you what I think about each individual game, but the package in general... Its terrific. No kidding.

Super Mario Kart: DODODO DO DOOO DODODO DO DOOOO

Yep, its the very first Mario Kart in the series! The game was fun to play with two players, especially in battle mode (I WILL POP ALL YOUR BALLOONS, YA JERK). Computers whoop my ass in 150cc, though. The mechanics are a bit weird at times (Coins for speed? What?), but aside from thaaat... I usually play as Yoshi, since its-a Yoshi!

Harpy Reviews Kirby Mass Attack

Woo, boy. I just got done with this game and MAN, it was a doozy! And it will still be a doozy trying to 100% it! BRRR.

And now, its time to rip this apart.

Kirby Mass Attack is a puzzle platformer in which you, the player, get to abuse flick up to ten kirbies around using your almighty stylus. You use them to solve puzzles and beat the living crap out of enemies. Also, if you hate Kirby's "poyos," don't get this game. You will HATE it. Because "POYO POYO POY POY POY."

Basically, Kirby is snoozing in a field one day when this douche named Necrodeus (hahaha, corpse god. I see what you did there, HAL) swoops in. He wants to, as most dark, scaaary villains do, drown the world in darkness. So he screws Kirby over by zapping him with his staff and splitting him into ten, which only had 1/10th of his original power. Then he fucking kills nine of them. Like a douche.

Thank god Sarah isn't involved in this. Otherwise the game would have been over before it even started!

He's about to zap the last kirby when OH LOOK A STAR! It happened to be Kirby's heroic heart! Or spirit! Whatever, it's a plot device! It leads the kirby to safety, and then our epic adventure starts!

Yeah, if you're trying to look for a "WTFEPIC" plot here, I'm gonna have to ask you to GET OUUUUT

The main two mechanics are flying your kirbies to safety (pressing an area and gathering them up in a bubble, then dragging them around) and flinging them (tap a kirby and flick your stylus).  You will be using these two a lot if you want to get past this game. The kirbies can pull out turnips, knock down trees,  swim underwater like fast little buggers, and other things! If you have enough kirbies, you can get other goodies, too!

There is plenty to collect, too: Medals. Lots of them. They unlock little minigames in the Extras section, which are a BLAST to play through. Well, some of them anyway. There's a timing game along the line and its jolly good fun. Lots of cameos, too... and Canon Immigrants from the anime! Yay!

The graphics are pretty good here. Its all cutesy, reflecting the peaceful and dreamy... well, Dream Land.  Pretty good music, too! Air Ride lovers will recognize a few mixes of Air Ride songs tossed in, so be aware! Necrodeus's theme is creepy, though. Its like what you get when you combine a skeleton and a clown togethe-

Okay, so that is creeepy. Very catchy, though!

Onto gameplay! Some people will complain about the lack of copy abilities and floating. And to them, I say... wait a few more days. Return to Dream Land is coming out soon, dagnabbit. For what its worth, hot damn this game. Every level has its own particular gimmick, so you're not stuck in doing the exact same thing over and ooover again. There is always something new to do and more to collect. The bosses are pretty fun, too. There's a balance of difficulty, unlike some. The levels start off as easy, then progressively get harder and harder as you go along. Also, autoscroll. It will squish your kirbies and kill them all. ALL OF THEM.

Only problem I see is that your kirbies can die easily to just about anything remotely dangerous. Pink kirbies that take a hit turn blue; a hit to a blue kirby and that kills 'em. You can always drag their souls back with the other kirbies, but you can kiss your silver (or gold) star goodbye. And even then, they come back as blue rather than pink.

Oh yeah, there's always a great challenge. See if you can collect ALL of the medals in each and every level and clear it with no Kirbies damaged at all (basically that nets you a gold star). Complete each and every checklist item. I DARE YOU.

All in all, this game is buckets of fun and has quite a bit of replay value. At least, if you're a perfectionist. Or maybe because you just like playing through your favorite levels again. Its good for just about everybody, and its a perfect way to end the dying DS's game line. I give this a 9/10. Not absolutely perfect (sometimes you might have trouble flicking your kirbies), but pretty close.

I managed to clock in 36 hours on my first go, and collected 114 Kirbies along the way. (You can only keep 10, but a lot of kirbies die. A lot. Along the way. ) And of all the kirbies that were knocked out, I saved 288 of them. Yay~

Oh noes, Kirby has a backstory! It's totally not canon! Oh Sakurai, strike me down with all your might!

But yeah, I gave Kirby a bit of a backstory on his birth and all. I got the inspiration from the anime and that Nightmare nonsense. I think Nightmare created Meta Knight instead of Kirby, though. I mean.. dat sword.

I might elaborate more in a piece of fanfiction, but we'll have to see.

All I can say is... it'll be kinda grimdark for a Kirby fanfic. D:

It may be relevant to next year's plot, but who knows? I don't.

Oh man, I have Kirby Mass Attack. If you see a lot of kirbies in the bar, you know what my deal is.

CLEARLY, I HAVE ISSUES~

All joking aside, I will be tossing a few references here and there. I swear, though... For a kirby game people tend to complain about ("WAAAH WHERE ARE MY COPY ABILITIES AND FLOATING WAAH" "shush Kirby: Return to Dreamland will be out soon ya wankah" ), it is BUCKETS of fun. Seriously. The music is great, the graphics are good, you get to control up to ten.. count 'em, TEN little kirbies and flick them around! The game is based off of taking this buggers, solving puzzles, and flicking them around like a douchebag. Also, they zerg rush enemies. They are cute little dangerous zergs.

My favorite part about this game? The puzzle element. Trying to get everything involves a lot of thinking and maneuvering around obsticles. You gotta use your head for most of the game! You also have to be very careful, for kirbies die EASILY. (Two hits and they're out.) Fortunately, you can just zerg rush their souls and drag their asses back to earth to revive them... 

Not only that... Poyos. Lots of them. To some, this might be the equivallent of Navi's "HEY, LISTEN!"  To others, like me, it is the most adorbable thing ever. I shit you not. 

Also, ten jumbo, rainbow, invincible kirbies. The Kaijus of Dream Land, surely.


And now, to more serious matters... Plot for next year. RedSpy mentioned on skype once that instead of choosing characters that fit around the theme, we just make fit our own characters to the theme. Like, here... we have a lot of characters that aren't from the 80s, but they still do 80s things. So yeah, most of my characters will return, barring major issues. I have a plot idea for next year..

It will revolve around a dark force that Kirby accidently (and unknowingly) brought  to ZF on his way there, one that possesses others at night and causes them to do dirty deeds. It'll be the typical "WOOORLD DOMINATION" kind of villain, but this one is a bit smarter than the rabble. He will try to get others blamed for his crimes, and even gets Kirby imprisoned by possessing him and releasing horrid monsters never meant to roam the world. 

This will tie in heavily to SteelKomodo's RAEG plot if it happens. This force FEEDS on anger and hatred. With all the tension and people shoving blame on others, he'll be making the most delicious ham, cheese, bacon, and mustard sandwich out of that rage. Kirby may not rage at all, but he WILL be absolutely miserable. All for the sake of character development for all. 

I'll try not to be invasive with my plot, though. And I'll only possess those who will allow me to control their characters... Usually it will happen when everybody else is offline, the darkest hours of the bar. Or earliest. Who knows?

It will probably take a month or two to come full circle. I'm not trying to make a Legend of Zelda, I'm trying to make a Kirby game... in terms of plot length anyway. Might go on for longer, depending on how others feel. I just don't want to repeat the same mistake that caused the whole tension between Cornwind and the others.

anyway, holy smokes I beat Squeak Squad 100% on my first go! I died to Dark Nebula, though. For shaaame.

I wish the Triple Star worked differently than the Star Rod (aside from the barrier of stars and range limitation), but what can ya do? Well, edit it in fanfiction, of course! Maybe later, though.

With the addition of spray cans from Amazing Mirror's already huge collection... Man. I really love Lavender, White, Shadow, and Carbon Kirby in addition to the Kirby Brigade colors, Ocean, and Sapphire. I still hate Cherry with a passion, though. That's an ugly combination of colors. Urgh.

Quick question, though...did I make Alex a bit too OP? I tried to balance his abilities and make the gods give him more stuff, only with drawbacks. I play those four off for comedy, anyway. Those four are never serious, unless shit happens. I should probably go into detail about them later. Ah well.

As for Juan and Kisha, they're just oneshot characters unless people start begging me to make them fringe characters. Juan will be too busy partying with a certain Loki-based god, while Kisha will return back home.

Blatant Favoritism

I figured that hey, I talked about my characters... why don't I talk about other peoples characters? Fuck yeah. Particularly ones that I like. A lot. Maybe.

First up, Sarah. Just... Sarah. And I will bullshit a last name for her... Yes, Sarah Drasil. Shut up, I know it's lame, but whatever! She's a buckets of fun to RP with, and BREAKFAST WARS with the Tridens is turning out to be hillarious as all hell. Of course it had to be the character I totally ended up shoving Goops into the RP Mania with really RPed alongside first. Yeeep. And so, eventually, she'll be launching into space with Kirby and Alex, probably searching for the Sweetest Planet in the Universe to devour.

Sorry Candyland, but you're going to have to deal with three "cosmic horrors".

Next up, Widow Maker. She is probably the most hillarious character out there, and she seems to have an emote for every occasion. You've seen me use some of the emotes in Alex's Adventures in the Underworld. They are JUST. SO. FITTING.  I hope she (and by extent, Goops) manages to get over her cold soon. Maybe tea and soup will help? D:

Zephyrus. When Joe (RedSpy) brought the idea up, I was like "UUURGH FUCKING AIR MAN" or something. I honestly didn't know what to expect out of this, but I wasn't going to say no or anything. (Herp, passive herp.) Then RP Explosion happened and holy son of a bitch Zephy became one of the most important people in the bar. His helpfulness and optimism is... well, I'm gonna have to be honest: its rather reflective of his author's personality. Yeah, sometimes its bad and it makes me want to facepalm, but this is one guy I love. Also, he needs to grow a spine. Not kidding.

EREBUUUS. WHEE. Goddamn was he grimdark to begin with, but look at him now! He's fucking MARRIED to the MOST INTERESTING CHARACTER IN THE BAR. (Okay, one of them. Ssssh.) Oh, fuck it, why don't I shove all of Dross's/Erebus's characters here? Erebus went from Grimdark to Noblebright thanks to a particular turtle of the bar, and HOW. His development was incredible, and I really enjoy seeing his antics. What I look forward to is a war between Kirby and him over chocolate. Pech is funny in his own sarcastic, bitter way. I can just see him as Santa though, with a sleigh full of snakes led by a red-nosed hydra. Only the only presents he leaves is death for all who try to challenge him. Antoinette (or Fang Four) is just so adorably innocent, its not even funny. I can see her growing up to be a veternarian (oh hey, same job I'm trying to gun for) and volunteering her time at an animal shelter. While petting the shit out of cats. Like I did when I volunteered at my shelter..

Jonesy. Wooaaah. She's another wild one and I love her for it. She used to be emotionally unstable and had a lot of issues. Yet... for all her flaws, she turned out to be a really awesome person! Not to mention, she's a fellow pyromaniac. She recieved a lot of development over the past few months; its incredible to see her where she is now. Now she's the one who gets the crazy ideas to swim in the chocolate fountain with her hubby. And mai, that IS delicious!

And finally, Eddie and Rain. Oh boy, where to start? For one thing, the minute Eddie walked in was the minute I knew epic shit was going to happen. I wasn't wrong, either: the bar now had its own personal musician and roadie, always helping others out. Prankster? Fuck yes. Rain also turned out to be lolzy, then turned out to be sweet as hell. I have only myself to blame for that... He went from CREEPAH! to d'aaaaaaaaw. All because I wanted a happy ending for the ninja (and wanted to see what would happen if i paired Stella up with him. WELP...)

There are more, but these are my particular favorites. Yep. Next blog post, I think I'll go into more detail about Alex's grand adventure... and Levia in general.

I was on a homecoming parade float for the summer program I was in during most of the tournament. Yeees. I had to go through the horrors of Calculus for six weeks. At least I got a 4.0 out of it...

Also, wanna know the best thing to use when you simply do NOT want something to happen?

In even weirder news, i managed to get into Golden Sun and NOT get terribly lost like I did as a child. Whoop whoop. It is great and wonderful, I daresay.

More Kirby Mania

Goddamn it Goops, you got me into a tangent. A Kirby tangent.

Like I mentioned in his blog, I was really hooked on Kirby. Kirby is the whole reason I'm here now... I really started foruming around Kirby's Rainbow Resort (bless your souls, KindarSpirit and friends) and actually got my (mediocre) start in RPing there. Mind you, it was more casual than serious, but eeeeh.

As for Kirby games I have played? Weeeelll... Most were emulated rather than owned, so I'm terribly sorry D:

As for me, I love the hell out of Ice and Plasma, and I typically use the Green(Kusamochi), Ocean, and Chocolate spray cans.

What a day! We had a cruise, a tapogre fight, Alex losing an eatting contest, and other such things. It was fucking epic. Also, I managed to get a fan on Fanfiction.net already. Sweeet.

I'm going about this the same way I would go about Alex if he managed to split into two people and he couldn't be merged back: Let them be merely a facet of the original. At least, at first. I always do love exploring the sort of faces a character has. The sum of the parts make up the whole, you know. And now, Kirby Brigade...

Kirby! (He's the cool guy.)

He's more like his Anime self: A baby/young child with little to no experience in life. He's so naive, he puts Zephyrus to shame. Worst part is... Well, you'll see in the next part. He is absolutely curious about everything, even a blade of grass can distract him. The Brigade have to keep a close eye on him, or he might run off into more trouble than they bargained for.

Keeby! (She's the crazy one.)

She represents Kirby's more feminine side, and all of his ditzyness. She has a bad tendency to space out and is the klutziest of the bunch. Not much else makes sense around her: she appears whenever her name is called somehow, she materializes pies from nowhere, and she tends to bend space and time sometimes. As in, VROP. Most of this is for shits and giggles, though, so eh. She remains to be Miyamoto's favorite Kirby.

Kabi! (He never smiles.)

Red has never looked so angry. I never really had a name in mind for him... But this will surely get confusing with the japanese! (In which case, Kirby is named Kabi, and he would be just Kirby. See how confusing it is?)  Anyway, he represents Kirby's angrier, smug side. He's an asshole, through and through. Okay, not really, but eh. He's usually the Deadpan Snarker of the group and cynical about a lot of things, but shove him front of a kitty and he will hug it two ways to tomorrow. He also has his collection of unusual euphamisms (SON OF A SUBMARINER)... which I think I need help on, because Dream Land doesn't have swearing. (But of course, it has alcohol!)

and Kusamochi! (He's the Leader)

Nobody ever expects player four to be the leader. Well, bitches, he is now. Kirby's a baby, for cripes sake! You don't put babies in leadership possitions! Kusa's really just the part of Kirby who leads others and helps others, although he can become a real worry wart. ESPECIALLY when Kirby is running off and finding trouble. He tries to keep the Brigade together and summons them whenever help is necessary.  He can be pretty easygoing, too, but so formal when meeting new people!

Now with that in mind, you are armed with the knowledge needed to survive longfic. Yesss. I might make a separate blog for this.. but who knows?

I'm trying to work on a Kirby fanfic, a shortfic if you will, involving the Kirby Brigade. Thing is, I don't know what kind of plot to have. Of course, Grimdark plots are a no-no. This is supposed to be a funny kind of thing. My brain is kinda "bluuuh" on all of this, though, so tell me...
